Getting Started

What is Pitch Planner?

Pitch Planner is a free web application for creating and managing soccer tournaments and leagues. It handles fixture generation, scheduling, live standings, and public sharing so organizers can focus on the game instead of spreadsheets. Learn more in our guide: What Is Pitch Planner.

Is Pitch Planner really free?

Yes, Pitch Planner is 100% free with no hidden fees, no premium tiers, and no ads. The free plan includes up to 3 active tournaments with up to 16 teams and 4 venues each. Tournaments are stored for 60 days and archived after 30 days of inactivity. You do not need a credit card to sign up or use the platform.

Do I need an account to create a tournament?

No. You can create a tournament without signing up. Your tournament will be saved and you can claim it later by creating an account. However, signing up lets you manage multiple tournaments from a dashboard.

How do I sign up?

Click 'Get Started' on the home page or go to the sign-up page. All you need is an email address and a password. Registration takes less than 30 seconds.

Tournament Management

What tournament formats does Pitch Planner support?

Pitch Planner supports three formats: Round-Robin (every team plays every other team), Knockout (single-elimination bracket with optional third-place match), and Pool Play (teams play in pools with optional knockout brackets, supporting divisions). See our format comparison guide.

How many teams can I add to a tournament?

You can add up to 16 teams and 4 venues per tournament. Each team can have a custom name. For knockout formats, the system automatically handles byes if the number of teams is not a power of two.

How does fixture generation work?

Pitch Planner uses a circle rotation algorithm for round-robin fixtures to ensure balanced matchups. For knockout formats, it creates a bracket with proper seeding. Fixtures are generated instantly after you add your teams.

What happens to inactive tournaments?

Tournaments that have not been edited for 30 days are automatically archived. All tournaments are stored for up to 60 days from creation. If you need longer storage, make sure to keep your tournament active by updating it periodically.

Can I schedule matches across multiple venues?

Yes. You can add multiple venues, each with its own available days and time slots. The scheduler assigns matches to available slots automatically while respecting rest day constraints and maximum games per day limits.

Can I edit matches or scores after generating fixtures?

Yes. You can update match scores at any time from the tournament dashboard. Standings and rankings are recalculated automatically whenever you enter or change a score.

Sharing & Public View

Can I share my tournament publicly?

Yes. Once you publish your tournament, it gets a unique public URL that anyone can view without signing in. The public page shows fixtures, results, and standings with filters for team, venue, and match status.

Can spectators edit my tournament?

No. The public view is read-only. Only the tournament owner can edit teams, enter scores, or modify the schedule. Spectators can only view the information you have published.

Technical & Security

Is my data secure?

Yes. Pitch Planner uses Supabase for authentication and data storage with row-level security policies. All API endpoints require authorization for mutations. Private tournaments are only visible to their owners.

What browsers does Pitch Planner support?

Pitch Planner works on all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. The interface is fully responsive and works on mobile phones, tablets, and desktops.

Playing Time & Match Day

How do I track equal playing time in youth soccer?

Use Pitch Planner's Match Day tool. Before the match, set a target minimum playing time (e.g., 50%). During the game, the app tracks every second each player is on the field. After the final whistle, you get a summary showing who met the target and who fell short.

What is the best app for soccer substitution tracking?

Pitch Planner's Match Day tool is a free soccer substitution tracker that runs in your phone's browser — no download needed. Tap a bench player and a field player to swap them. The app tracks minutes automatically.

Can I plan substitutions before the match starts?

Yes. The Rotation Planner auto-generates a substitution schedule based on your match duration and rotation interval. During the game, you get visual alerts when it's time to rotate. You can also override the plan and make manual subs at any time.
